Beijing Travel Reviews
My tour guide Jennifer made this quick one day trip to Beijing great! The day started out a bit overcast and rainy when I landed, but Jennifer’s positive attitude and kind communication (along with her being able to keep up/put up with my jokes) made it fine.Despite this, Jennifer and our driver Chen were able to swing an extra photo shoot stop at the Olympic Stadium. I guess it gives me an excuse to come back to visit again, and when I do - I will use China Highlights and this great fantastic team.

MoreUsed China Highlights for a private all-day tour of Jinshanling portion of the Great Wall. One of the best days of my life! Tour guide Alan and a driver met me at my hotel and the ride was very comfortable. Alan was extremely knowledgable and friendly, I really enjoyed talking with him. The scenery was astoundingly beautiful; this is a less touristy portion of the Wall. The hiking was fun, Alan brought plenty of water, and showed me things I would not have noticed by myself. On the way back to the hotel, we stopped at a local restaurant for lunch that Alan had arranged - delicious! Once in a lifetime experience.
MoreI booked a 4 weeks private China tour with ChinaHighlights covering landscapes and cultural sites between Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Zhangjiajie, Hangzhou and Shanghai. The entire tour was set up accurately, very fast and in the light of all relevant personal preferences by Mrs. Carol Wang, an expert in organizing hand made voyages in China. Due to her knowledge and immediate responses the tour was scheduled comfortably and straightforward, including all transfers and authentic hotel bookings. I highly recommend ChinaHighlights and in particular Carol Wang for organizing any extraordinary, non-mainstream travel to China.
MoreOur guide Lily Liu was lovely - super patient, warm, knowledgeable about Chinese history, and great English skills. Would definitely recommend this service!

Private tour with China highlights made seeing Xi'an super easy. We saved a lot of time with a private driver, and our guide Jenny took really good care of us, sending instructions for where to meet once getting off the train and made everything feel really safe and easy. She also accommodated a number of last minute changes to our itinerary without batting an eye. She was very patient, knowledgeable and friendly. It was great having a guide who grew up locally in the area to show us around (which is not always the case, from my previous experiences elsewhere). Would definitely recommend!
More默文就是我们所说的一个完美的导游!她我s extremely informative all the way through. She knows hers stuff and she is also enthusiastic, knowledgeable, personable and very willing to help. The whole day was perfect. A great amount of walking and a lots of physical activity ( hiking) and she was all smiling, accommodating and keeping us informative. She was absolutely the best tour guide we've ever encountered in China. Her English is perfect! Everything was so well organized. Her knowledge of the local culture and history is impressive. Fantastic
MoreOur tour guide was Mervyn, and she was amazing! She had great knowledge of Xi'an and the silk road, and we learned so many things we didn't know before. The Muslim quarter is a must-see, with so many streets of food. Terracotta warriors were breathtaking. We did a Hanfu experience and enjoyed walking the city at night in our tang Dynasty outfits. We wish we spent more than 2 days here as there's so much to do. Definitely recommend this tour and will be visiting again!
MoreWhat an amazing few days in Xi’an! Our guide Jenny was first class - very knowledgeable and very helpful, she went out of her way to make sure we had the best experience like ordering us coffees & food and booking dinners for us. The highlight was of course visiting the Terracotta Warriors, but we also really enjoyed visiting a local family to make dumplings. Can’t recommend this trip and Jenny enough!
MoreWe had an amazing experience in Xi'an thanks to China Highlights private day-tour. Our guide, Rocky, organized the day schedule perfectly to make sure we enjoyed in the morning a cool ride on Xi'an City Walls, and then to head to Terracotta Warriors in the afternoon to avoid much crowd. We also enjoyed a delicious lunch at local restaurant, where Rocky helped us to order typical dishes. We would highly recommend it as everything was great: Rocky was very fluent in English and so knowledgeable, car was comfortable and we felt very safe with the driver.

I had a fantastic Panda tour with Helen in Chengdu City. From the moment she picked me up, my energy was low from a heap of travelling, but Helen quickly brought me up a notch with her breathtaking passion for Pandas. Not only did she provide a fantastic experience accommodating my every need, but she was also a genuinely kind and joyful company to tour the city with. I can't recommend Helen enough - you won't regret it!
MoreOur tour guide Mary spoke perfect English, was so nice to us and took us to all the best sights in Jiuzhaiguo. It was an unforgettable tour with incredible views!
MoreWe organised a two day trip to Jiuzhaiguo through our travel advisor, Leah from China Highlights, who was so helpful.
Gracias Pablo
MoreBeen in Chengdu for a couple of days with my wife and my daughter 2 years old. We have been guided by Henry Lee, a very professional and competent touristic guide that have organized perfectly our short journey in Chengdu. Highly Recommended.
MoreGuilin Travel Reviews
桂林是一个惊人的地方,所以非常lovely to visit. While it's a little more geared towards western tourists than other parts of China, I'm still really glad we visited with China highlights, as it was super helpful to have a private driver- Guilin is a big place and a bit of a drive if you want to get out of the tourist area. Our guide Gary was the nicest human being you could ever hope to meet, full of knowledge and very open about sharing his life experiences as a local and of the local ethnic minority - we learned so much from him. We traveled to some nearby villages to visit some local farmers and partake in some very authentic experiences at a wet market - certainly not something we would have tried (or navigated) on our own, but we're so glad to have experienced it! We were also booked at a lovely hotel in Guilin, with what I can say is an absolutely unbeatable view- not a hotel I would have chosen for myself., but very glad to have experienced it!
MoreWe enjoyed an incredible two day trip in Guilin, taking a brief half-day boat cruise on the Li River and cycling around Yangshuo in the afternoon with our guide Gary. Gary met us at the airport and made us feel very welcome, providing us with five-star service. He gave us a lot of insight about Guilin and the Guangxi region and even gave us a tai chi lesson on the boat. He provided us excellent dining suggestions for the evening as well as suggestions of things to do. Thank you Gary for making our trip to Guilin so memorable!
MoreWe were paired with great guides on every city, very knowleadgeble and hardworking people that made our trip fabulous. Jack in Beijing was brilliant and very resourceful making sure we enjoyed the city even when he wasn't with us. In Xi'An we were paired with Crystal that was incredibly smart and made sure we felt we had not only a guide but a friend to rely on in Xi'An, we loved how she made sure we tried the best food and fruit available and helped us from arrival to departure from Xi'An. Finally, kudos to Gary (Wei Li) that worked with us in Guiling and Yangshuo. Gary is a local to Guiling and truly proud of his city and origins. We learned a lot from him and he trully went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time in Guiling adjusting the itinerary to our liking and taking time to explain everything. On our flight out of Guiling we had a bit of an issue with our tickets (booked by ourselves) and Gary promptly lent a hand to help us sort it out with the airport staff, trully a champion. If you are heading to Guiling with Chinahighlights, make sure to have Gary as your guide.
MoreWife and I spent 13 days touring China (Beijing, Xi'An, Guiling and Yangshuo). Hired Chinahighlights for our tours and also to book domestic train tickets. They they provided an awesome service starting. Our organizer, Carol Wang, was very attentive and provided a lot of good advices and cleared doubts I had during my planning.
MoreThe guide Lily has a great knowledge in hidden gems and the history about the places. Very memorable experience that i have thanks to them.
MoreTibet Travel Reviews
I recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to Tibet, a land steeped in mysticism and rich cultural heritage. My train trip on the famous scenic Qinghai route on train Y971 Lhasa played a significant role in making this trip an extraordinary experience.Upon my arrival in Lhasa via an overnight train, I was warmly welcomed by the guide assigned Tenzin Lhatse. He had waited for more than 3 hours as he was not informed there was a change in the train schedule. Nontheless, it did not dampen his warm attitude and the seamless transferfrom the train station to the hotel set a positive tone for my stay. The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the visit to the iconic Potala Palace. The sheer grandeur and architectural brilliance of this historic site left me in awe. The guidance of my knowledgeable tour guide, who revealed the stories behind each shrine, enriched my experience. However, the strict visitor limits and rules underscored the importance of preserving this ancient marvel. The Old Barkhor Street Walking Tour was a journey through time. From Jokhang Temple to the bustling local market, each stop offered insights into Tibetan daily life and folk customs. The Pandatsang Compound's history and the cup of Tibetan sweet tea at Ani Tsangkhung Nunnery added unique flavors to the tour.Overall, my journey through Tibet was an incredible odyssey into a world of spirituality, culture, and natural beauty. I'm glad to have taken this step with my wife to challenge the train ride which was totally worthy of this lifetime.
More十四(14)天的暑假celebration of our 25th could not have been better spent, 12 days on the Tibetan plateau as arranged by China Highlights was really an experience of a lifetime. Altitude effects people differently. 2 full days in Xining provided a great introduction to the culture while the overnight train to Lhasa allowed for acclimation to the altitude to help assure our tine would be spent with minimal potential down time. Within Tibet, the experience was outstanding. Our guide, Tenzin Lhatse was the perfect companion for the entire trip providing an excellent understanding of the history and the culture while allowing for some day-to-day flexibility to keep the tourist volume relatively level. His 18 years of guide experience was definitely a benefit as the movement through the Potala Palace and all of the monasteries, temples, and natural landmarks was second nature. There was never a drive to just get through the process and instead there was always an ability to stop at a point of particular interest in order to receive a little more focus. The vast knowledge amassed over history combined with the unparalleled spirituality proved to establish the condition for an amazing experience; working through China Highlights for sure elevated everything to an incredibly high level. Much thanks to China Highlights with special mention to Tenzin. Rob & Tess McBean
MoreIn case you didn't know, ALL foreigners MUST be on an organized tour to visit Tibet. However, what was great about this China Highlights tour was that we were givenq the choice of what kind of hotel to stay in (3 or 4 stars), and though the days were planned, our tour guide gave us a lot of flexibility (on day seven he let us decide as group if we wanted to see another monastery... we had had our full by then!) and the evevings were always free. The culture, the scenery and the people of Tibet are almost indescribable, and I was moved so many times and in multiple places. That said, what really made my time traveling aacoss Tibet so fulfiling was our tour guide, E. Ten Zin. He dealt with seven different personalities with professional ease, communicated clearly what was happening at all times (there are multiple check points, so he needed to take our passports frequently), had an answer for every question and topic, and quickly learned what each of us liked and gave us more of that... I was quietly fascinated by some farmland, and E. Ten Zin took me aside, took my camera and said "you need a photo here". And when we arrived at Everest and she was hiding behind some clouds, he sat down, patted the ground beside him for us to join him and told us "just wait. You will see"... half an hour later, he was right, and Everest was spectacular. This was not my first time with China Highlights, and it won't be my last. Highly highly recommended.
More我目前在一个火车青海、拥有just completed an incredible 8-day tour in Tibet (the first and last days are for arriving, adjusting to the altitude, and departing). This trip was supposed to happen in summer 2022, which is when Monica from China Highlights and I first started to plan this journey. Covid put a stop to that plan, but we stayed in touch and one year later Monica organized my Tibet Permit, booked my tour and I was flying off to Lhasa. All the logistics were arranged from the moment I arrived and at every overnight stop.... there were several of us who took the whole tour from Lhasa to Mount Everest Base Camp, and multiple times we mentioned to each how nice it was to simply get on the bus each day and not have to think about or organize anything. In case you didn't know, ALL foreigners MUST be on an organized tour to visit Tibet. This was not my first time with China Highlights, and it won't be my last. Highly highly recommended.
MoreAbsolutely delighted with the service given by Albee Ning in planning my holiday this coming autumn. Nothing was too much trouble for her, and she has a lovely way of letting me know when my suggestions don’t work! I’m looking forward to making the trip and will DEFINITELY use Albee again for 2024!

Ryan from #chinahighlights was my guide beginning in Shanghai when I landed the day before. He had a huge bouquet of flowers from China Highlights company for me when I arrived at the Shanghai airport. Next We went to Humble Administrators Garden which was already inundated with throngs of Chinese Tourists and visitors. It was a super lovely day so I don't blame them for visiting! I was wearing my own Han Fu dress so I felt very much at home because that's what the girls and women do, go to these places for photos! This garden despite all the people was super great. The features and layout including bonsai. Especially Azalea, we're stunning. Clean and neat. Worth your time anyway you cut it. Next was the smaller The Garden of The Master of Nets. Along the way Ryan explained some of the history and features of these places as we went along. Somehow both these gardens merged in my mind! I love Gardens, so I could go to these places daily! Finally, we drove to Tongli Old Town. Another places where girls and women dress up for outings and pictures. I wish I saw more men indulging! Lovely little town, I loved the layout and feeling like I had time travelled. The little boat cruise was jumping again with Chinese visitors and tourists. I really felt happy that they were out enjoying themselves after the recent past.... After the boat Ryan took me to Pingjuang Road, which is mostly a pedestrian street. He mentioned the Film Industry and showed me a monument and street tiles for all the movies that had been made there. A light lunch and walked back out of the area to the parking lot area where we began. A super lovely day with No Hassles!
MoreOn April 15 we headed towards Suzhou and I had asked Carol Wang, my Tavel agent with #chinahighlights if I could add going to the Embroidery Institute which also included a section on Silk. I was informed that our first stop was a Silk Museum. Good enough! Small enough and lovely, it's a newer museum and it was not crowded! This little place is well worth your time to get some real insight on Silk manufacturing from the onset! Really nice visit and No hassles.
MoreWe had another amazing tour with China Highlights. Cultural tour to Suzhou was so informative and fun with our amazing guide Mr Lin and our wonderful Wendy who brought us together. Many thanks to both of you! Looking forward to our next adventure.
MoreI've been to Suzhou many times on business but I wanted to explore more when my wife and I planned a two week trip to China. We took the train in from Xian - which gave us an opportunity to see the countryside while relaxing on the smoothest trip I've had by rail. China highlights took care of all the details for us. Our guide Cathy is very proud of her city and knows its history well. We enjoyed two days of tours including the Humble Administrators garden, Tiger Hill pagoda and gardens, a canal cruise, the silk museum and a rickshaw tour through a residential area with stops in the local markets. Throughout Cathy was able to highlight points of interest as well as answer any questions. The restaurants were great as well with a nice variety of foods to enjoy.
MorePenny got us safely on our high speed train in Suzhou and we traveled on our own to Wuhan. Michael of China Highlights found us when we disembarked the train station and couriered us to our hotel where we settled in for the night. Next day he took us to all the desired locations. A super friendly tour guide with great knowledge of the region. Michael couriered us to the Wuhan airport and we traveled on our own to Hangzhou.
MoreShanghai Travel Reviews
This was our first time ever visiting Shanghai so we wanted to see good places to go to and good food to eat in Shanghai. That's why we booked with China Highlights. They're very responsive and quick to arrange our 3 day trip. Our guide name is Qi and she is a very sweet and helpful person. She knew we wanted to explore many local foods, so she brought us some local breakfast foods when she picked us up from our hotel, just so we can try everything! She was knowledgeable as well about the culture and history of the places we went to. Will definitely recommend this tour and use China Highlights again for our next trip to China!
MoreMy partner and I were visiting China for the first time. Our tour guide was Martin, who was friendly and very knowledgeable. He adjusted the tour to our needs and gave us an extensive tour of Shanghai as well as many fascinating insights on China. He also went above and beyond and offered us plenty of recommendations on what to do in the evenings, how to get there, and even made bookings for us. Martin, thanks again!
MoreRoger Li was our booking and travel advisor. As soon as he reached out to me after my initial online inquiry, he conveyed great communication skills and diligence in his work. He always responded quickly and never hesitated in adjusting our itinerary, until we are completely satisfied. He was also very flexible in our requests e.g. tweaking departure city, additional travellers, extra free days. What impressed me most was his (and probably China Highlights') ability to understand the needs of foreign travellers e.g. using WhatsApp and money exchange issues, tips on using WeChat/Alipay when applicable. We have booked our end of year tour now and hope that China Highlights will deliver as well as this initial process!
MoreI liked beautiful riverfront with skyscrapers, especially in the evening. The garden is very nice, lots of walkways makes it feel really big. Thanks to the guide the schedule was very flexible. Instead of waiting in a huge queue for the tv tower we went to nearby skyscraper, we also were able to meet with our friends who also visited Shanghai on the same day.
MoreKris was an excellent tour guide in Shanghai and flexible with our travel plans. Mervyn has impressive knowledge of history and culture in Xi'an and did a stellar job navigating the crowds of tourists seeing the Terra-cotta Army. Cactus brings a depth of historical knowledge to the tours that is super interesting, and she has great enthusiasm that makes the tour enjoyable. All our drivers were very good and helped ensure that we got from one destination to the next as safely and quickly as possible. The air conditioning in the comfortable cars during the exceptionally hot summer was appreciated, as well. Our itinerary included Shanghai, Xi'an, and Beijing, plus a few days trips such as a small water town outside Shanghai and the Terra-cotta Army outside Xi'an. We took high speed trains between all our destinations, and the China Highlights team did everything they could remotely to pre-arrange those logistics and also escorted us as far as they were able to at each train station. We traveled first class whenever the tickets were still available, and we stayed in quality hotels that were clean and centrally-located for most tourist activities in each city. It was maybe the greatest culinary trip of our lives. :)
MoreZhangjiajie Travel Reviews
张家界是一个美丽的和真正特别的地方for nature lovers. Be forewarned that it's super busy though, so we were really glad to go as early as possible (the park opens at 7), and we were glad to book with China highlights as they helped us with all of the ticketing and helped us dodge the lineups and many of the crowds. Our guide Lee was knowledgeable and with great English, and they gave me a number of great hiking recommendations to make sure I got the outdoor experience I was dreaming about. I traveled here with an aging parent, and I'm super grateful to Lee for juggling both our needs and being super flexible with our schedule to make sure I got in some solo hiking time while also catching all the most important sights inside the park.
MoreHad a great tour of Zhangjiajie with our guide,Tony. Each day was filled with activities that smoothly flowed from one to another with little to no wait time. We saw everything that was advertised and more. Lunches were delicious and filling. Tony is very engaging with tremendous local knowledge. He knew the best spots to take pictures and how to get away from the crowds. He was also very good about taking photos of our family and sending them to us.
MoreCarol Wang of China Highlights was responsive to my questions and made reserving the tour easy. Overall, highly recommend 4 nights/3 days Zhangjiajie Tour.
MoreThe natural scenery is majestic and wonderful in Tienmen and Zhangjiajie. We arrived at Lijiang on 9/8. We enjoyed the time in Lijiang a lot with good hotel selection and a well planned program. We went onto Shaxi for the local singing festival of the local minority groups. It was a fantastic experience. What makes the trip most memorable is our guide Alice. She took excellent care of us, anticipating our every need. She was personable, warm and very knowledgeable. We shared many laughters and traded stories. She brought smiles to us during the entire trip. We will specifically ask for her again when we come back to Yunnan. Five star service.
MoreWe would like to thank China Highlights Travel for planning and organizing our China hiking trip. Roger Li (Trip Planner) was really prompt in all correspondences and helped us to fine tune our travel details. We are a party of 4 and had multiple hiking destinations in mind in the beginning. Roger gave us details of each option and we finally decided to go hiking in the famous Tiger Leaping Gorge. In addition, Roger helped us to add itinerary in Lijiang and Shangri-la after the hiking. Really looking forward to our China hiking trip in October!

We had a great time in Dali together with our very caring and amazing guide Daisy. She accommodated to all our interest - especially in learning more about local crafts and took us to an interesting die tie house. And we learned a lot about the Bai culture from her. Daisy is also a great photographer and took the most beautiful memories of us during our visit.

MoreHuangshan Travel Reviews
We had the most fantastic experience with our tour guide, Jack Fan, who is very knowledgeable about the Yellow Mountain and was able to get us quickly to the most stunning highlights. He was our "photographer" anytime we wanted a photo and that was very often. We made the most of our time having him guiding us. He was truly the mountain man as he is a local there. He is very passionate about what he does. He loves history, nature, and travel, which is a must for a guide. He provided historical facts about the stunning Ancient villages at Hong Cun and Xidi. He answered any questions we had about history, nature, and current things we had. I felt like he was a professor, and we were his students in a very good way. He was NEVER late, and neither was our driver. They never bought us anywhere to "sell" us things. He took us to buy tea only when we asked to buy a specific tea, staying much later than he should have! I wanted to check out lotus and rice fields, which was not on the itinerary, but he squeezed it in for us. We were very well taken care of. I highly recommend Jack for a tour guide who speaks English.
MoreI also highly recommend China Highlights. Maggie was detailed and patient and answered my endless questions; she worked hard to ensure everything went well before our trip. She also stayed in touch when we arrived. Maggie from China HIghlights was superb. I will use them again when we return.
MoreOur tour guide Tony was indeed very knowledgeable and helpful the entire trip. His explanation and description of the villages in English is very good. Tony is very accommodating to our requests too. The hike up in the mountains was really good and exciting and Tony managed to bring us to most of the recommended viewpoints and waited for us to catch our breath when we’re too exhausted hiking. I fully recommend getting Tony as your guide.
MoreMy girlfriend and I went to Yellow Mountain during the Labor Day Holiday in China, and honestly were amazed by the actual beauty of it all. Our tour guide Sunny (thank you so much for your exquisite work) made our trip even better. The hotels that were chosen by the China Highlights agency were perfect, the Shanshui Boutique in the heart of the Huangshan city was so convenient to walk from, and the Xihai Hotel on the mountains was a perfect stop for the hiking we did for two days. The tour that we did was not enough to see everything of course so we shall be returning in the near future. We were so lucky about the weather and the crowds (holiday) that the perfect visit was even more marvelous as I proposed to my girlfriend on the Flying Rock peak during a breathtaking sunset. This will always be our rock and for that I am very grateful since Sunny the tour guide made it perfect for us.
MoreGreat and one of kind experience!!!! The team of China highlights with Carol was very professional and helpful meeting all of our needs and thank you all again !!

MoreThank you to China Highlights for arranging amazing guide Derek and driver Mr Zhu. Derek was friendly, knowledgeable, Informative and professional. More188金宝搏官方下载中国强调安排我的杭州之旅Mid April 2023. I arrived by train from Shanghai. I faced the East traveling and these were my first visions of China. I was amazed at the agricultural lands and how everything was set up, I was actually moved to tears. Well done. I was picked up by Lulu, my guide and our driver. As I remember it, I think we just got right to the tour. Lulu had been told I needed some cough medicine and she brought some from her home for me. It had to be mixed with very hot water, so she handed it to me on schedule throughout the day. We drove through very congested Sunday traffic, gorgeous day, to the entry where we began walking around West Lake. This is where the statue is in the water of a White Snake turning into a woman... so the story begins there. We walked around, so many different garden sections, I could visit everyday and never get bored! We end up at the docking for the tour boats, get in ours. The operator on the speaker was a bit loud and my left ear was still pressurized from my long plane fight to Shanghai. It was hard for me to hear Lulu on the boat ride. A lot of history and facts along the walk, boat ride, and later destinations. Lulu knows her Hangzhou! A bit more walking and back on the road waiting for our driver. We then headed towards Lingyin Temple but Sunday traffic congestion had us stuck and not really moving. I got to see some people plucking green tea leaves off the road. Lulu asked if I minded because we were losing time, if we moved on to the next part. I said I was fine with that. I believe next we were driven as far up Wushan Mountain, which is not as high as it seems, and dropped off. We walked up a bit more. Really beautiful the trees and landscape. ChenghuangGe Pavillion is up there, which houses a big 3D rendering of old Hangzhou daily life, points of history, as well as Lulu telling me more. We walked up and took the elevator. Upper levels are for catering parties or events, we saw a wedding couple in Han Fu having pictures. Upper level pictures were obscured by the Sun, but visually very nice. It does give you the grand view of Hangzhou in all directions. We then headed across the courtyard to the Temple of the City God. This whole place seems like a study place for students or disciples with Masters. Not crowded, very much enjoyed the atmosphere. I have never been in a City God Temple, it was really neat, and I could take pictures. Always ask if you can take pictures! Then we walked down from the mountain and into the old time town of shops and merchants. It was really great to be there and see on my own with my Guide. I very much enjoyed the original and still functioning Chinese Traditional Herbal Medicine Museum. The next day I had the day to myself. Lulu suggested I walk from the hotel to the part of West Lake that we had not been to. I did. It was a Monday and there were different groups of seniors dressed up in different areas and dancing to different kinds of music. I heard Chinese opera coming from somewhere along my walk and investigated where that was coming from. It was a very small group of Seniors doing kareoke in a small pavilion off the main path. I walked through them and clapped my hands. The "instructor" lady didn't look too happy with me, public park.... I recommend Lulu and China Highlights for Hangzhou.
MoreChina Highlights provided me with a guide Gerry, from Hangzhou, to visit Hengdian World Studios for a day. He also picked me up at the Yiwu Train Station or I would have been totally lost! Via taxi we drove to Broadway Building Hotel. Having an English speaking guide with me was imperative as no one spoke English. The next morning breakfast buffet there was one of the nicest and extremely busy. My room was nice, they try to make it be a little old fashioned. The best thing was free entry to Dreamy Bund just around the corner from the entrance to the hotel. Met Gerry in the lobby, he got a taxi and we set off to another section of Hengdian. He suggested I go with the 3 park ticket, and because this year I turn 60, I got a very nice discount! The reason I was in China and at Hengdian in particular, was my birthday coming. Having Gerry for that day was indeed a gift. He suggested we begin with "Scenes Along The River During Qingming Festival". I was so lucky that it was not busy at all there, it was practically a private visit. I was delighted! So this is based on a huge painting portraying so many things going on during the Festival. So there are replicas built on the ground reflecting the scenes. My favorites were Gerry telling me the story at the front of a restaurant where human bones were hanging, and making our way somehow to where they were working on the sets, which really made my visit click. Gerry asked the man who was there what was happening and he said it was getting ready for "Strange Tales of The Tang Dynasty 2". One of my favorite C Dramas, and Gerry said he had enjoyed that series as well. Very nice park with lots of different areas. Next was Emperor Qin's Palace and last was Ming and Qing Dynasties, which I believe is a replica of The Forbidden City though not as detailed. It was really great to be at these places since I have been binge watching C Drama since February 2022. To really be there was my wish come true. As the icing on my Birthday, I did get my wish of dressing as the Empress and sitting on the throne in the last building before exiting for the day! So thanks Gerry, and thanks very much to China Highlights for making it happen.
MoreOur guide Leaf met us at the train station as we arrived from Beijing and lead us on a very well paced exploration of important spots of West Lake as well as a few other historical places in the area.We also took a detour to Anji city and enjoyed seeing the natural wonders of the area including hearing about the history of the Green Tea in the area and had an amazing lunch at a local restaurant. Best Sweet and Sour Pork and Ribs we have had in China.
